Solarlux Akzent Vision Wintergarden on a Barn Conversion
A glass dining room extension with bare brick walls that combine with the industrial-style features of the Akzent Vision.
This is an interesting and unusual glass extension for two reasons. Firstly, the clients opted for the Solarlux 'Akzent Vision'. It's a favourite of ours but not everyone's choice. The rafters in the roof are almost flush on the outside, but the inside has an industrial-style design with steel cables. The clients loved this design and felt it worked well with the original features of the old barn, reflecting its past uses.
Which brings us to the second reason this extension is unusual: generally, our customers render the outside walls that have become part of the interior of the glass extension, but in this case, they wanted to make a feature of the old walls. In particular, they wanted to show off the old barn ventilation holes in a diamond pattern (which at some point have been filled with attractive blue bricks to preserve the design). For this reason, they have left the walls as they were, but with open doorways through to the kitchen and to the lounge.
With underfloor heating and triple-glazing this really is a dining room for all seasons.
The clients are loving their glass extension and have commented how much their dinner guests love dining in the extension — even on snowy days!
