Our clients had bought this beautiful barn conversion, but were not happy with the existing UPVC windows. They didn't like them aesthetically (they were pretty ugly) but of more concern was the draughts and cold spots caused by poor insulation (typical of UPVC double glazing) and particularly evidence of long-term leaking from some bifolding doors at the rear which had damaged the flooring.
We did a site visit with our surveyor and could see that the big arched group of windows were poorly fitted. After assessing the double recessed edges to the opening, we established that the windows would be better mounted on the inner recess rather than the outer. The clients visited our showroom to choose their windows and fell in love with our Danish-made Kastrup windows. These triple-glazed windows are made from solid sustainable timber with aluminium on the outside for a lifelong low-maintenance finish. The bifolds would be replaced with Kastrup sliding doors.
They were keen to have a big, high security Internorm front door which would need to be integrated with the Kastrup windows without it being noticeable, something we have considerable expertise in. They opted for the HT400 timber-aluminium door with natural oak on the inside plus triple gaskets and foam insulation. The larger door presented a problem with potentially hitting the staircase behind it, but we overcame that with the use of asymmetrical sidelights.
The final result is stunning. The Moss Grey finish works superbly with the old bricks, a massive improvement over the old dark brown windows. The exceptional thermal properties have prevented the cold spots and convection draughts and all the windows and doors fit beautifully and are warm and dry.
The clients are thrilled with their new windows and doors and tell us they have met all their expectations. They were also keen to credit all the staff involved for doing such an excellent job from the specification to the installation and after-care.
