Contemporary Extension to Period Home with Internorm Sliding Doors & Windows with Views of Cheshire

CASE STUDY

An Unusual, Interesting and Bold Design

Includes Internorm Triple-Glazed Windows and HS330 Sliding Doors with Open Corner

The client had a design for an impressive contemporary 2-storey extension to his 1920s Tudor-style home. He wanted large-scale glazing and knew of our reputation for just that. The extension was angled towards the wonderful views of the Cheshire castles and he wanted large-scale glazing to maximise those views. Mindful of the impact of large glazing in winter, he wanted windows and doors with high thermal performance to keep the home comfortable despite all that glass but also with the style and manufacturing quality to match the quality of his vision. We specified Internorm HF310 windows with Uw-Values of 0.7 to 0.9 and large Internorm HS330 lift-and-slide doors with Uw values of 0.8, the best in class for sliding doors, which met all his requirements perfectly.

The design included a patio area under an overhang from the first floor for entertaining. We were able to configure a corner sliding door unit as an pillar-free open corner, to create a large space between the patio and the kitchen.

A major challenge for us was that to meet his timescale, the client wanted to get the order placed when the project was just a steel frame. Some of the sliding doors  in the project were complex to integrate into the structure so to order at this stage can be fraught with problems — but fortunately the client had an good builder combined with the experience, patience and meticulous attention to detail of our technical team. When the windows were installed they were perfect to the millimetre!

The client and his family were extremely pleased and proud of the extension and also of the fine windows and doors that are such an integral part of this imaginative building. We're proud too!
