An Architect's own Passivhaus SIPS home with Internorm Windows & Doors

This Passivhaus building includes windows & doors from Internorm which are Passivhaus-certified.

When architects design their own forever home, they keep coming to Spectrum!

When a senior director of an international firm of architects was designing his own home to Passivhaus standards, he knew that Internorm should always be the first choice for the windows... and after previous experience, trusted Spectrum to provide the high level of service, knowledge and skills that would be necessary for a complex Passivhaus build.

His window choice was triple-glazed HF310 Studio which combines the usual exceptional Internorm performance with crisp contemporary lines. His design included a 'garden room' with a mixture of HS330 sliding doors, HS330 fixed panels and bonded glass corners. The finish is RAL7022 Umbra Grey on the outside and tinted spruce timber on the inside.

The house was building using the SIPS construction methods using Structural Insulated Panels, a modern building method that uses a sandwich panel of an insulating foam core between two structural boards, usually oriented strand board (OSB). This approach creates strong, energy-efficient, and lightweight structures for walls, roofs, and floors that can be erected quickly. Key benefits include reduced construction time, excellent thermal performance, and sustainability, while a potential disadvantage is the need for a well-managed ventilation system to prevent moisture buildup.
